First Day Volunteering at Rocket Dog Rescue
October 15th, 2015
After a couple days searching for animal shelters available for volunteers with my friend, we came to the conclusion to volunteer for Rocket Dog Rescue, a small organization who rescues, as the name implies, dogs (and sometimes cats) from abandoned homes and shelters.
Today was my first day, although this blog is a bit late... It was hard to forget my first day! My friend and I came a little bit nervous as volunteering and talking to unknown adults were a bit out of our comfort zone, but we got over it really quickly.
After other volunteers quickly and efficiently organized the loose mesh cages to present the dogs, new volunteers were trained near the back of a Pet Club-ish store.
We were trained by a senior volunteer and got our papers signed.
Eventually, many dogs came and volunteers were abundant. After learning the backgrounds of many of the rescued puppies, we were to showcase them for adoption and I was able to talk to many people and volunteers to try to get the dogs fostered or adopted into good homes.
I was peed on 3 times.
